As part of the Belfast Grand Central Station redevelopment, WorkSpace successfully delivered the consolidation of three existing control rooms into a single, centralised facility at Lanyon Place.
The project scope included the construction and fit-out of a new main control room, alongside supporting office space and welfare facilities, comprising toilets, showers, and kitchen amenities. Designed to meet the complex operational requirements of a 24/7 transport environment, the new space enhances coordination and efficiency for station management teams.
The site, located in a restricted basement area beneath the live Lanyon Place Station, posed significant logistical and engineering challenges due to the absence of natural light and its landlocked position. Construction works required precision mini-piling and the installation of reinforced concrete (RC) walls within a confined footprint, situated between active railway lines and live control and signalling infrastructure.
We worked collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver the project with minimal disruption to station operations, ensuring safety, continuity, and long-term functionality in a highly sensitive rail environment.
